You can set Google Analytics to collect data about visits to your online store by using Ecommerce Tracking. In this way, Analytics will collect data about your online store's order totals and product contents.

This article is about the old Google Analytics extension.

There is a new Google Analytics 4 extension, which enables you to use the newest version of Google Analytics in your store.

Google will sunset the old Analytics version on 1 July 2023.

It is recommended to use the old and new Google Analytics extension side-by-side until the old version seizes to function.

You may want to combine Ecommerce Tracking with order conversion tracking.

To enable Ecommerce Tracking:

  1. In Google Analytics', go to Admin > Ecommerce Settings.
  2. Select Enable Ecommerce.
  3. Optional: You can also use this to enable Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking.

If you enable Enhanced Ecommerce tracking, in your online store's admin panel, in the settings for the Google Analytics extension, select Universal Analytics + Enhanced Ecommerce (analytics.js) as the tracking code.

Also make sure that your store theme supports Enhanced Ecommerce tracking (learn more about its implementation in the theme).

  4. Save the ecommerce settings.
  5. In Google Analytics, go to Admin > View Settings, and select the currency used in your online store in the Currency displayed as menu.
  6. Save the view settings.

If you've enabled multiple views, Ecommerce Tracking must be separately enabled for each view.

The information collected by online store tracking can be viewed in Google Analytics' reports available at Reports > Conversions > Ecommerce.
