Google Analytics is a free visitor tracking software with which you can track your online store's visitor figures, traffic sources, and search engine ranking.

With MyCashflow's Google Analytics extension, you can easily add the Google Analytics visitor tracking service to your online store.

The extension also includes support for Enhanced Ecommerce tracking, as well as Google Optimize.

Read MyCashflow's description of the Google Analytics service.

This article is about the old Google Analytics extension.

There is a new Google Analytics 4 extension, which enables you to use the newest version of Google Analytics in your store.

Google will sunset the old Analytics version on 1 July 2023.

It is recommended to use the old and new Google Analytics extension side-by-side until the old version seizes to function.

Installation and setup

To use the extension, you need a Google Analytics account. You can create an account at https://www.google.com/analytics/

Google Analytics can be enabled in two different ways depending on whether you are using the old Universal Analytics or the newer Google Analytics 4. Instructions for setting up both versions can be found below.

Read also the general extension installation and deployment instructions.

Extensions are not available in MyCashflow Free plan.

Installation using the newer Google Analytics 4

MyCashflow doesn't support the new tracking ID that starts with G and comes with the Google Analytics 4 version, so if you use the new version, you'll have to create a new property and select the option to create a tracking ID of the old type that starts with UA in its additional settings.

If you already have a property created with the appropriate settings in your account, you can also use it (start from step 5).

Here's how to create a Google Analytics 4 property that can be used in MyCashflow.

  1. In the Google Analytics admin panel, go to the Admin page.
  2. Create a new property by clicking Create Property.
  3. Specify the property's settings:
    • Select Show advanced options > Create a Universal Analytics property.
    • Specify website details.
    • Select Create a Universal Analytics property only.
  4. Specify company details and finalize creation of the property.
  5. In the Google Analytics admin panel, go to the Admin page.
  6. Select the desired property from the menu at the top of the Property pane.
  7. Go to the page Tracking Info > Tracking code.
  8. Copy the tracking ID displayed on the page (e.g. UA-52255226-1).
  9. Back in MyCashflow, paste the ID into the settings for the Google Analytics extension on the Account > Apps > Google Analytics page.
  10. Select the tracking code version.
Google Analytics is now enabled in your online store. You can make sure that tracking works properly in Google Analytics, on the page Admin > Tracking Info > Tracking Code, by using the Send test traffic feature.

Installation using the old Universal Analytics

If you are using a property based on the old Universal Analytics, you can enable it in your online store as follows:

  1. In the Google Analytics admin panel, go to the Admin page.
  2. Select the desired property from the menu at the top of the Property pane.
  3. Go to the page Tracking Info > Tracking code.
  4. Copy the tracking ID displayed on the page (e.g. UA-52255226-1).
  5. Back in MyCashflow, paste the ID into the settings for the Google Analytics extension on the Account > Apps > Google Analytics page.
  6. Select the tracking code version.
  7. Save the extension's settings.

Google Analytics is now enabled in your online store. You can make sure that tracking works properly in Google Analytics, on the page Admin > Tracking Info > Tracking Code, by using the Send test traffic feature.

Google Analytics and SSL-encrypted domains

Google Analytics often interprets returning from payment services to the online store as referral traffic. This is especially problematic when tracking order conversions, as it prevents conversions from being logged in the tracking service.

Most often this issue occurs after SSL encryption has been enabled.

After enabling encryption, disable tracking for the no-longer-necessary referral traffic to external services in Analytics.

See the instructions and a list of recommended websites for which the tracking should be disabled.

Also change the website's URL into the encrypted https:// version in Google Analytics:

  • On the page Admin > Property Settings, in the menu Default URL
  • On the page Admin > View Settings, in the menu Website's URL
