In MyCashflow, you can sell gift cards for your online store. The customer will receive their gift cards in PDF format in order emails, but you can also print them from the admin panel.

The gift card products are based on MyCashflow's gift card feature.

When you create a gift card product, the system automatically creates a linked gift card that the customer can purchase from the online store.

Creating and editing gift card products

Here's how to create a gift card product:

  1. In the admin panel, go to Products.
  2. Open the drop-down menu by clicking the arrow button next to the Add product button and select Add gift card product.
  3. In the form, specify the details of the gift card product.
  4. Click Save.

The gift card product is now available in the versions you've selected. After the customer has ordered a gift card product, the system creates the gift card automatically when the order is marked as delivered.

By default, the gift card product is not included in any product category, which means that your customers won't be able to find it directly. To add the gift card product to any of your online store's product categories, drag it there from the product list.

Make sure to add information about the gift card's validity period to your online store's shipping conditions. By default, gift cards are valid for 1 year.

It is currently not possible to create multilingual contents for gift card products.

If you'd like to sell gift cards of different values, create separate gift card products for each value.

Here's how to edit a gift card product:

  1. Open the desired product for editing on the admin panel's Products page.
  2. Make the desired changes to the product.
  3. Click Save.

Editing a gift card product doesn't have any impact on the gift cards that you've already sold.

Gift card product settings

  • Name: Currently, you can specify the name only in one language.
  • Show in version: Select all store versions in which you'd like to sell the gift card.
  • Price: The value of a gift card is always the same as its price. When necessary, you can edit the gift card's value in gift card settings.
  • Validity period: Define the gift card's validity period in months. When necessary, you can edit the gift card's validity period in Validity period.
  • Product image: You can currently set only one product image.
  • Description: Provide a short and easy-to-read description which includes the most important information about the product.
  • Product information: Provide a more in-depth description with detailed information about the product's properties and uses. Organize the text by using subheadings and other styles. Also be sure to use related keywords in order to optimize the description for search engines.
  • Product code: The product code is used mainly to identify the product when transferring data between MyCashflow and other software (e.g. when using extensions for financial administration software).

Search engine optimization

If you have installed the Web Designer extension, in the Search Engine Optimisation section you can specify the document and page titles and meta description that will appear in search engine results. (Find out more about optimizing your MyCashflow online store for search engines)

The page title serves as the content header on the online store's product page, while the document title is included in the tab label at the top of the browser window or below the address bar. If you leave the title empty, MyCashflow will use the product name as its substitute.

Processing gift card orders

If the customer pays the entire order when placing it (e.g., by using an online payment service), the gift card is created automatically, and its code and the link to download the gift card in PDF are added to the order confirmation email. In this way, the customer receives the gift card immediately after purchase without you having to do anything. Also, the gift card product is automatically marked as shipped.

If the customer doesn't pay the entire order when placing it (or the customer pays with Klarna Payments), the gift card will only be created when the shipment containing the gift card product is marked as shipped.

When an order is paid with Klarna, the payment needs to be activated before the gift card can be delivered.

When the shipment containing the gift card product is marked as shipped (either automatically or by the merchant):
  • the customer receives a link to download a PDF gift card
    • in the order confirmation email
    • in the shipping confirmation email.

If an order contains multiple gift card products, each one of them will become a separate gift card.

Like other gift cards, gift card products will appear on the Orders > Gift cards page, where you can, among other things:
  • edit the gift card validity period (1 year by default)
  • edit the gift card balance.

Here you can also print the gift card in PDF yourself and send it to the customer e.g. by post or email.

Printing PDF gift cards

Optionally, you can print a gift card and send it to the customer as a PDF file or a physical gift card.

Here's how to print a PDF gift card:

  1. Go to Orders > Gift cards.
  2. Open the gift card by clicking its code.
  3. In the upper right corner, click Print.
    You'll see a PDF gift card, which, by default, will include your online store's logo, the gift card code, its value and its validity period.

In this view, you can save the card to your own computer and send it by email to the customer, or print and mail it.
