Recently, the MyCashflow theme system has undergone a major renewal. The most prominent change are email themes that merchants must deploy in their online stores. This article discusses the necessary procedures.

The email theme defines the layout and contents of the store's emails. Each email sent from the store has its own template in the email theme.

The differences in email themes compared to the previous system

Previously, emails were a part of the store's theme. Now, the emails have been separated from the store's theme, which means that an email theme can be used with multiple versions or themes.

For instance, if the store has multiple B2B versions, the versions can use the same email theme and the consumer versions can use another email theme.

Theme management has been renewed as well. From now on, store themes are located in the themes/shop folder instead of the root folder of the store's file directory.

Email themes are located in the themes/email folder of the store's file directory. Previously, email templates were located in the store's theme emails folder.

New default email theme

Along with theme management renewal, we also added a new default email theme – MyCashflow 2018.

The new email theme contains templates for all types of emails that can be sent from the store. If the store's own theme is missing a template, the corresponding template from the default theme will be used in its place.

The new default theme is responsive and it scales nicely with the screen width of the user's device. It has also been thoroughly tested with different email clients to ensure its functionality.

Replacing missing email templates

After the update, the email layout is now selected based on different settings, depending on the fact whether the primary email theme includes templates for all emails sent from the store.

If the email theme selected in version settings does not contain a template for a type of email, the alternative template to be used in its place will be selected in the following way:

  • The email theme's template defined in the theme.xml file of the store's theme
  • MyCashflow old default theme MyCashflow 2012

You may want to add templates for all types of email to your primary email theme, so that your store's communication provides a unified experience to your customers.

Where do I get email themes from?

At the moment, there are two email themes available: the old MyCashflow 2012 as well as the new, responsive MyCashflow 2018. Both email themes can be selected in version settings.

You can also have a customized email theme developed for your online store. See the Designer's Guide for instructions on how to design an email theme.

Deploying email themes

Email themes must be deployed for each layout theme used in the store. In this way, the email theme will be used in all versions that use that store theme.

After you have deployed email themes in layout themes, if you wish, you can also select an email theme for each version in version settings, on the page User interface > Versions.

To deploy an email theme:

  1. In the admin panel, open the notification in the upper right corner and press the link.

The list of the store's themes opens. For each theme, there is a menu to select an email theme for that layout theme.

By default, the old email theme MyCashflow 2012 is highlighted for all themes that do not contain their own email templates in the emails folder.

  2. Choose an email theme for each layout theme.

In the menu, you can find the new default email theme under the name MyCashflow 2018.

You can preview the selected email theme by pressing the link under the menu. You will be also able to preview the messages to be sent on the order page before sending them to customers.

  3. Finally, press Save.

If the same store theme is used in several versions and you'd like the versions to use different email themes, you can now select for each version its own theme in version settings.
